Nyeri - A Missionary Catholic priest has been acquitted by a Nyeri court after he admitted charges of driving his car beyond the speed limit.
Father Francesco Crabu, an Italian, was accused of driving at a speed of 119 kilometres per hour instead of 80 kilometres per hour on January 3, this year along Kiganjo – Nanyuki road.
Through his counsel, Father Mutahi David, the priest pleaded with the court to be lenient saying he is a missionary priest.
He added that he does not earn any salary and has dedicated his life to serve people of Nanyuki Catholic parish.
Mutahi told Resident Magistrate John Aringo that the accused person is remorseful and has regretted committing the offence.
The priest was however released as he vowed to follow all set traffic rules in future.
