Nakuru - Nakuru County nominated Senator, Liz Chelule, has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for not assenting to the oppressive media bill.
She said that the media bill was passed by leaders in parliament who wanted to gag the media fraternity in the country.
“This bill was passed by leaders who wanted to oppress media in the country and am glad the President did not sign the bill into law,” she said.
Speaking on Sunday, Chelule said that the Kenyan media has come a long way to be muzzled by few legislators.
She observed that the August House should have passed the media bill to the Senate for reassessment before giving it to the head of state for approval.
“We are not in the dark days when the media used to be silenced by Members of Parliament,” she said.
The nominated senator said that the fourth estate in the country is protected by the Kenyan Constitution and that parliament should adhere to the rule of law.
“The law is very clear on the media bill and that’s why the law should be followed to the letter,” she added.
