Laikipia - Security officers and residents of Kibuya village in Laikipia West sub-County are pursuing a gang of four cattle rustlers who stole livestock and raped a woman Thursday night.
According to a resident, Benson Kamaara, the gangsters who were armed with AK 47 guns raped Teresia Waithera who is eight months pregnant before stealing her three cows and seven goats.
“They stormed into her house during the raid and raped her in turns. They later stole her livestock,” said Kamaara.
The 24-year-old mother of one was later taken to Olmoran health center by neighbours where she was treated and discharged.
Kamaara said the animals are believed to have been ferried to Samburu County, adding that they found one goat slaughtered at Ngaremare area at the border of the two counties.
County regular police commander, Angelus Karuru said his officers are still on the ground pursuing the criminals.
Cattle rustling has been rampant in the area in the recent past, with leaders calling on the national government to provide them with Kenya Police Reservists to help curb the vice.
Sosian Ward representative, Jacob Ekoeli has consistently agitated for deployment of the KPRs saying they have already deployed in the neighbouring counties of Samburu, Isiolo and Baringo.
