Preacher arrested with fake KES 1.5M

Nyeri - Police in Tetu, Nyeri County have arrested a preacher with fake notes totaling KES.1.5 million.
The man, Daniel Wanjohi Kinyanjui was allegedly found with the fake currency in KES 1 000 note denominations.
He was arrested at Kangaita village following a tip from members of the public, police reported.
It was alleged that Wanjohi was defrauding unsuspecting residents through prayers by claiming that he had powers to double their monies.
He appeared before Resident Magistrate Catherine Mburu on Wednesday to answer to the two criminal charges levelled against him.
On the ffirst count, he was charged of knowingly and unlawfully obtaining KES 50 000 on August 2, 2014 claiming that he was able to multiply it by prayer.
The court further heard that the accused person was on the same day found with fake currency purporting it to be genuine, alongside some special papers that he allegedly used to manufacture the counterfeit money.
He however denied the charges and was released on a KES 100 000 bond.
Wanjohi told the court that he was robbed of KES 9 000 by police officers who arrested him.
The court asked the prosecution to avail the officers in court so as to offer explanation for the accusations.
