Popular politician fears for his life

03 September 2014, 14:18 Joseph Njung’eh

Nyeri - A member of the Nyeri County assembly claims that his life is in danger.

Anthony Mwangi Kibuu said a former politician in the area is conspiring with others to eliminate him from politics.

Kibuu, who is the immediate former Majority Leader and a representative of the Gatitu-Muruguru ward is renowned for keeping the county government on check.

In a personal statement that he tabled at the County assembly chambers, Kibuu said the group had held four meetings at Muruguru village to discuss the matter.

He claimed that the conspiracy was because he has been challenging the area governor.

“These people have been convening meetings in Muruguru and have so far met four times. The meetings are being chaired by a former politician and the other members are from the office of the governor,” Kibuu said while addressing the assembly.

He revealed that the suspects are planning to plant drugs in his residence so that he can be prosecuted and convicted for being in possession of drugs.

Kibuu added that he got information from reliable persons and has since reported the matter at the Police Divisional Headquarters.

“I have been in politics for 17 years and I have never seen drugs,” he said, adding that he will not be intimidated by 'persons who do not have interests of this County at heart’.

“I have a right to represent and serve my community without any fear whatsoever. I have a right to exercise my oversight role so as to ensure the rights of my electorates are protected,” he added.
