Poor roads hinder development

25 January 2013, 15:17 Kelvin Wanjohi

Poor state of roads in Nyandarua and Laikipia counties has greatly led to losses in the business sector.

Speaking in Nyahururu town, East Africa Portland Cement Company Quality Assurance Manager Sikujua Seboru said that major roads are in a deplorable state and something should be done as soon as possible in order to uplift the standards of living for the affected residents.

Citing the Nyahururu - Nairobi road along the Olkalou - Gilgil stretch as reference roads, Sikujua observed that it is a nightmare for motorists transporting produce to Nairobi yet Nyandarua is a food basket for most parts of the country.

Most stretches along the Nyahururu - Nyeri road are a major hindrance to development in both counties.

Sikujua further pointed out that Nyahururu town has a great potential for development once the county government starts operating.

He urged people to use standardized cement in order to get good results citing cases where some buildings all over the country have collapsed due to ignorance and running for cheap and fake product.

He added that EAPC will continue holding refresher seminars for people in the construction industry so as to train them on emerging technologies regarding the use of cement, as well as ways of enhancing quality of mixtures.
