Politician arrested for causing disturbance at a pub

Nyeri - A Nyeri politician, Ngunjiri Wambugu spent a night on the cold floors of Nyeri Central police cell after he was arrested at a pub in Tetu Sub-County for causing disturbance.
According to a free-bond receipt that he was issued with by area deputy OCS, Stephen Oloo, Ngunjiri was accused of creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
However, Ngunjiri claimed that he was arrested by two Administration Police officers armed with batons after he demanded to know why they were harassing young men at the pub.
“Two police officers named Matu and Ngari entered the pub where we were holding a meeting with youths and sportsmen participating in a tournament that I have sponsored. They started harassing youths and upon intervening, one officer made a radio call to the police station. Later a Land rover arrived and I was arrested,” Ngunjiri explained.

The AP officers, according to Ngunjiri, claimed that he was intimidating and threatening them.
“Initially, they were accusing me of holding an illegal meeting and threatening to have an officer sacked only to realize later that I was accused of breaching peace,” reported Ngunjiri.
“There are rogue police officers who are tarnishing the good image of the the police service. Security cannot be enhanced without cooperation between police and public. I attest that there is great beef between police and public,” said Ngunjiri.
Efforts to get a comment from Senior County police officers were futile as phone calls went unanswered.
