Political activist shot dead in his home

Nyeri - A political activist from Nyeri town was Wednesday night killed in his home in Kamuyu village, Nyeri town.
Residents learnt about the death of 48-year-old John Mwangi alias Planner early Thursday morning.
He was also a well known businessman in the area and owned a pub.
Residents vowed to take action saying that security in the area has worsened in the past few months.
One of the residents who sought anonymity said that police in the area have not been doing their job, adding that they will take the role of ensuring there is security upon themselves.
But while speaking to the residents shortly after removing the body to the morgue, area Deputy County Commissioner, John Marete urged residents to be patient and give room to law enforcers to act.

He accused them of failing to cooperate with the security personnel by withholding information that would assist in apprehending criminals in the area.
Nyeri Central police boss, Charles Rotich said that the deceased was shot on his thigh and died of excessive bleeding.
Rotich said that he heard of gun shots at 12. 00 am and instructed his officers to establish the course but could not find any since the shooting had ceased by the time they arrived in the area.
Nothing was stolen from the deceased.
