Policeman to be charged for mason's murder

Nyeri - The Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko has directed that a police officer who killed a mason in Mukurweini few months ago be charged with murder.
Constable Chibungu Sanga, attached to Mukurweini police station, will be charged with the murder of Kingori Kanyi as recommended by Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA).
The DPP said following Kanyi's death on May 7, IPOA launched investigations into his death after allegations that he was shot by the police officer.
IPOA's report indicated that five officers went to arrest Kanyi at midnight and broke down the door of his house.
Four other officers involved in the incident will undergo disciplinary action for failing to record the arrest mission in the Occurrence Book (OB) before leaving the station as required, Tobiko said.

Tobiko added that according to the report, Kanyi stormed out of the house but was shot on the chest with a bullet that pierced through his body and almost landed on his children.
He was later found dead in the family's coffee farm the following day.
“The bullet which killed Kanyi traveled through his body, past the open door and through the wooden wall of his bedroom narrowly missing his two young children who were sleeping,” said the DPP in a press statement Saturday.
He stated that the probe established that Kanyi was involved in a bar brawl with the officer on February 22 in Mukurweini town, indicating there was a grudge between them prior to the incident leading to his death.
