Nairobi - A senior security officer from Lamu County linked to the death of a young girl from Mpeketoni has presented himself to Malindi Criminal investigations for interrogation.
Constable Mohamed Salim on Thursday evening presented himself accompanied by his lawyer James Mwouko following a public outcry over the same.
The matter which is now under investigation may see the officer face murder charges once found guilty.
Addressing the media at the Malindi DCI offices, his Lawyer Mwouko said that the constable had been unwell and that he was not hiding as reports had indicated.
He said that they are leaving the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department CID and that he was also expected to be picked by police from Lamu to start the investigations.
Lamu acting County Commissioner, Fredrick Ndambuki had ordered for the immediate arrest of the officer before arraigning him in court on murder charges.
It is said that the officer threw a gun at a boda boda operator who was carrying Margaret Njeri in an attempt to stop him, but it missed him and instead landed on the woman's head.
The force and weight of the gun caused Njeri to fall off the speeding motorbike, sustaining severe head injuries.
Margaret Njeri died later at the Pandya Hospital where she was undergoing treatment.
