Residents of Kanyoni trading center woke up to a rude shock following the brutal murder of a police constable on Thursday night.
Speaking to journalists at the scene on Wednesday morning, Laikipia East Police Chief Joshua Lutukai confirmed the incident saying that the 28-year old officer was attached at Kanyoni Monastery Patrol Base.
He said that Stephen Kinyua was on his way to the base when the bandits attacked and killed him instantly alongside Nanyuki-Kanyoni road.
“According to our investigations, the criminals were heavily armed and implanted serious head injuries and deep cuts on him. Their intention was to kill because they did not steal anything from him”, said Lutukai.
Lutukai said that the officer was a humble and hardworking cop who performed his duties for the best interests of Kenyans.
“How can someone be so heartless to butcher a person who spends sleepless nights while instilling security to people? We will dig into this matter”, said the Police Boss.
Residents who viewed the body of the deceased in disbelief bitterly criticized the killing, saying that he was a straightforward policeman who did not harass anyone but co-operated well with everyone.
Lutukai assured them that he will beef up security in the area to curb further crimes.
The body was taken to Nanyuki District Hospital mortuary as the police continue with investigations.
