Cheptais - A policeman attached to Cheptais police station, in Bungoma County passed away on Thursday afternoon after he allegedly engaged in excessive drinking.
The unnamed officer is said to have been on a drinking spree at a popular bar in the town with his colleagues and some friends is suspected to have taken a lot of drinks.
According to one of his friends who requested anonymity, the heavily inebriated officer who stays alone, collapsed at the bar and was pronounced dead on arrival at a clinic in the town, where he had been rushed to for medical attention.
“He must have been drinking his favourite tipple, which was spirits on an empty belly as he stays alone. That must have caused his untimely death,” said one of his friends.
Cheptais OCPD Ezekiel Kiche confirmed the incident but disputed the circumstances that led to the officers’ death.
“Yes we lost one of our officers on Thursday afternoon, but he had a serious asthmatic attack that led to his untimely death,” said the police boss.
