Police yet to recover KES 1.2 M stolen coffee

Kirinyaga - Police in Kirinyaga are yet to recover 64 bags of coffee stolen from Nguiguini coffee factory over the weekend.
The coffee valued at over KES 1.2 million was stolen from the factory during an incident where a security guard was brutally murdered.
Kirinyaga County Police Commander, Charles Ontira said they have arrested several suspects from whom they hope to get intel leading to recovery of the coffee.
During the Sunday 3am incident, the gang believed to have been armed with crude weapons also injured two other guards who have been admitted at the Karatina district Hospital.

“The gang comprising about 20 raiders arrived at the factory in a lorry and pick up. They attacked the guards and then packed the coffee into the vehicles and took off,” the Kibirigwi farmers’ co-operative society chairman, Maina Manji said.
Coffee theft in central Kenya especially in Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Murang’a County was rampant last year, but this is the first incident this year.
