Police to exhume body of murdered woman

21 August 2013, 16:33 Wangui Joseph

Nyeri - Nyeri acting Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Wekesa on Wednesday granted police orders to exhume the body of a woman who was murdered and buried at a house in Narumoru Kieni sub-county.

The court order will see the body of Rosemary Wangechi Ndaika, who is believed to have been killed and buried secretly on 3 September 2008 exhumed on Thursday.

A Police superintendent attached to Nyeri County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO), Julius Emase, has already filed an affidavit in court in regard to the matter.

The affidavit filed before Chief Magistrate Wilbrodah Juma indicated that the officer has already identified the site where the woman was buried and exhumation exercise was expected once granted the order.

“I request the court to grant us an order to exhume the body in accordance with section 386 (1) on the Criminal Penal Code on August 22, 2013,” read part of the affidavit.

The deceased was reported missing five years ago until recently when a mason who was contracted to refurbish the said house discovered the smell of a decaying matter while on duty.

He was unable to proceed with his work, and due to suspicions decided to report to police about the foul smell emanating from the house which was still under construction.

The police went to the scene and later discovered the body of an unidentified woman buried beneath the house and then investigations commenced.
