Nairobi - Police are to blame for the Turkana massacres which saw close to 100 people killed in inter tribal clashes, West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo has said.
Lonyangapuo, speaking at the CID headquarters in Nairobi Tuesday, said that the violence has been caused by lack of proper planning by police and has accused them of turning a blind eye to reports of the occurrences.
He insists that the deaths could have been prevented if police reacted in advance to intelligence reports and also arrived early in the region after they took place.
Further, he stated that accusations by Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery that politicians are to blame for the attacks were miscalculated and lacking in any form of truth.
" No politician can incite the mass killing of innocent Kenyans. None at all and those accusations are ill intended and looking to shift blame from the police," he said.
The Senator was among leaders from the Samburu, Pokot, Turkana region who had been summoned by the CID to record statements on the attacks.
leaders summoned include Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, his counterpart Asman Kamama of Tiaty and Alois Lentoimanga of Samburu North.
