Police thwart away car jacking attempt

Nyeri Police on Tuesday shot and seriously injured a car jacker in a foiled carjacking attempt.
The suspect and his two accomplices were trying to hijack a lorry at around 1pm at Kabiruini forest along Nyeri – Nyaribo road.
The driver of the lorry was driving heading to a quarry, when he was accosted by three men who were riding a motorcycle.
He said the suspects intercepted his vehicle and after he stopped, they demanded that he alights together with his passenger and surrender the ignition key.
Luckily, Karuri said his passenger whom he had given a lift and whom he didn’t know was an Administration police officer, drew out his pistol forcing the suspects to flee on foot. The AP officer then shot the suspect once on his arm and twice in the stomach.
The officer then contacted Nyeri police officers who arrived in time and saved the suspect from a mob that was baying for his blood.
The suspect was taken to the area police station for questioning and later to Nyeri Provincial Hospital for treatment.
