Man buys credentials to join police force

Nyeri - Two people accused of impersonation and lending certificate for impersonation respectively were Thursday remanded at Nyeri Police.
The duo, Robert Mutuku Nzungi alias Gerald Katuku and Robert Mutuku Nzungi, allegedly took advantage of the similarity of their names to commit the offences.
They were arraigned before Resident Magistrate Catherine Mburu where they denied the charges.
According to the charge sheet, Robert Mutuku Nzungi alias Gerald Katuku impersonated Robert Mutuku Nzungi by presenting his KCSE certificate at the Kenya Police College in Kiganjo on February 20, 2013, during a police recruitment exercise.
The second accused person is a student at a Kitale college and is charged with lending a certificate.
He was charged that on or before February 20 at Kitale Township in Trans Nzoia County, he sold his KCSE certificate to Robert Mutuku Nzungi alias Gerald Katuku with intend to help him join the police college.
He prayed court to release him on cash bail or bond claiming that he has academic examinations that are scheduled to run till Wednesday next week.
His request was however dismissed by court following the prosecution’s request that the duo remain in custody.
The magistrate set the case mentioning for December 4 when it is expected that the prosecution would have completed investigations.
