Police in Nakuru on Thursday recovered goods worth KES 1.5 million stolen while in transit to from Nairobi to Kisumu.
Police traced the goods to Ndege farm in Lanet following a tip off from members of the public.
According to Samuel Ngaruiya Waweru, a transporter who had been hired to transport the goods to Nakumatt Supermarket in Kisumu, his lorry driver and turn boy were carjacked at gunpoint at Free Area trading center at 9.00PM on Wednesday and driven to a bush at Ndege farm.
Ngaruiya said that the two were later released at dawn, long after the carjackers had offloaded all the goods and fled with the lorry.
Among the goods recovered were juices, maize and mineral water packed in various standard bottles, sacks and cartons. The goods were being transported from Excel Chemicals Limited and Pioneer Seeds.
The recovered goods are being held at Mwariki Police Post as investigations continue. Police are yet to recover the stolen lorry.
Police had earlier arrested the driver and his turn boy for questioning since the tracking device of the lorry was disconnected before the incident occurred.
The lady owner of the house where the goods were recovered was also arrested in the process.
Ndege area is notorious for highway robberies with at least two robberies being reported every week.
