Muhoroni - Police officers in Nyando recovered eight heads of cattle after a fierce gun battle with rustlers in Muhoroni on Thursday morning.
Muhoroni sub-County Administration Police Commandant, Julius Mukanda said the animals were recovered almost six hours after the owner alerted the police of the theft.
Mukanda said the cattle rustlers were heavily armed with bows and arrows but the more tactical security agents overpowered them.
He said the cattle thieves then escaped into a nearby sugarcane plantation abandoning the animals at Kopere, near the home of the late Permanent Secretary, Hezekiah Oyugi.
Following the incident, Mukanda warned local youths who engage in cattle rustling activities to desist from the crime or face the full force of the law.
The cattle rustlers are said to have raided the home of Tobias Ogik at Midnight Wednesday night making away with the eight animals.
