Nyandarua - Police in Nyandarua North District are pursuing four heavily armed gangsters who attempted to highjack a lorry along the Nyeri - Nyahururu highway.
According to Nyandarua North OCPD, Benjamin Onsongo, the gangsters flagged the driver to stop. He slowed down thinking that they were police officers as they donned police jungle jackets, but suspected they were gangsters since there was no police roadblock.
He then sped off prompting the gangsters to fire three shots at the lorry but did not hurt the driver and his conductor who drove to Mairo-Inya police post. The police rushed to the scene only to find 17 rounds of ammunition and a spent cartridge.
“The area has been quiet since no cases of robbery have been reported recently but we are following possible leads," said Onsongo.
"We urge the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects,” Onsongo added, saying that the gangsters are broke individuals who are out to terrorize residents.
