Police have launched an operation within Meru town and Makutano to arrest vendors on the roadside and town center.

According to area OCPD James Kithuka the operation has been conducted to curb number of criminals which is on the increase according to the police authority’s latest records.

The Police boss pointed out that these vendors disguise themselves into selling tea and sausages but engage in criminal deeds during late hours.

He said the operation has commenced and so far 15 vendors have been arrested and arraigned in court with charges of illegal business operation where they were fined 15,000 or two months imprisonment.

He added that the people are contrary to public health rules and they have no decent premises to sell beverages. They have resolved to storm the roadsides because they have not been certified as their businesses are filthy.

Kithuka gave warning to customers purchasing such product stating that they might not be fit for human consumption.

“If any person wants to operate they should be within the hours of working, look for better niches and get all legal documents from relevant authorities “ He added.

He urged the town mayor to support him in the operation to clean the county headquarters and look for special place for these vendors.
