A fierce gun battle ensued yesterday between members of two disciplined forces at Menengai Forest in Nakuru raising tension in the neighboring estates.
The drama started when the Kenya Police officers in civilian and un-marked cars approached a Kenya Forest Service roadblock and failed to identify themselves.
“The police came in four cars and heavily armed and failed to comply,” said Central Rift KFS commandant Brigadier Osborn Dunde.
It’s here that the KFS officer manning the road-block shot at one of the vehicles prompting the gun battle.
However the police mission in the highly protected forest was not immediately established.
No one was injured in the Tuesday evening incident that a high ranked officer in one of the involved parties said would create animosity between the two forces.
A gun belonging to the KFS officer has since been re-called and at the Nakuru Central Police Station.
“Police have launched investigation into the matter,” said Nakuru police Chief Muinde Kioko.
Residents living in Milimani estate and the neighborhood said they were shocked on hearing the gun-battle as no one explained to them what happened.
But no one was injured during the incident.
