Nairobi - A Kenya Police Reservist (KPR) has been killed by police in Isiolo on suspicion of being a cattle rustler.
The man only identified as Luwaso was gunned down by police as they were pursuing livestock that had been stolen by suspected rustlers from Samburu.
Confirming the incident Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner, Kipchumba Rutto said the cattle rustlers raided Manyatta Chokaa village on Tuesday night and were pursued by police officers until they crossed Ewaso Nyiro River.
“The KPR called for reinforcement from the police and as they cornered the cattle rustlers there was serious exchange of fire leading to the killing of Luwaso who was among the rustlers. Two KPR and one GSU officer were also injured,” said Kipchumba.
He said the injured officers were treated and discharged while the recovered animals were brought back to their owners.
The administrator said police are still pursuing the other cattle rustlers as he believed the crime rate is likely to decline.
