Police officer charged with forging Identity card

Nyeri - An administration police officer was on Monday charged in a Nyeri court with forging an identity card and absconding from duty.
Remgius Otieno alias Odhiambo Mununango was charged that on unknown dates and at unknown place, with intent to deceive or defraud and without lawful authority he forged an identity card number 23651575 in names Denis Odhiambo Mununango, purporting it to be a genuine identity card issued by the department of National Registration of Persons.
The officer was further accused of deserting his duties as a police officer based at Administration Police office in Nyeri South Sub-County.
He allegedly committed the offence on February 3, 2013 without leave for just cause for a period exceeding 21 days.
The prosecutor Stanselous Mwangi asked the court to detain the accused at Nyeri police station for four days to enable completion of investigations and establish if Otieno can be charged with more offences.
Chief magistrate Wilbrodah Juma ruled that the accused remain in custody up to December 27 when his case will be mentioned.
The case hearing was set on February 11, 2014.
