Police kill 5 suspected gangsters in Nairobi shooting spree

29 August 2014, 10:57 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Police killed 5 suspected gangsters in Nairobi Thursday as efforts intensified to rid the city of armed robbers.

The five were killed in two separate incidences.

The first incident took place in Kilimani area when the three unsuspecting gangsters riding on a motorcycle attempted to rob from police officers who were undercover in a vehicle.

They were all killed on the spot in the incident.

Nairobi police chief Benson Kibue confirmed the incident.

" The three were shot dead after attempting to rob at gunpoint, from a group of police officers along Kabarnet road, he said.

He also said that incidences of such robberies on motorcycles had increased, thus the police plan to lay a trap on the thugs.

The second incident took place not far away in Kawangware after police were alerted by members of the public of a group of men waylaying and robbing pedestrians in Muslim area.

When police arrived, they attacked the suspected gangsters, killing two while four others escaped.

Kibue thanked members of the public for their support and urged more and more calls to police in-case of such incidences.

" I urge members of the public to continue calling in whenever such incidences occur as they are our eyes on the ground, he urged.

The killings come in a week where 5 other gangsters were killed in Karatina also after a tip of from members of the public.
