Police officers in Tana Delta district within Tana River County are pursuing three suspected hardcore criminals who escaped from Gamba police station recently.
According to police, the suspects are still at large and are believed to be hiding at one of the villages in the area.
Tana Delta District Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Richard Mukwate said the three will be arrested soon.
Speaking to the media on phone, Mukwate said that they are following information given by members of public to arrest the three suspects who are dangerous to the community.
"We have information on three suspects hiding at one of the villages in Tana Delta district. I am organizing my officers so that we can lay ambush to apprehend them," he said.
The OCPD said that the suspects are either staying at their relatives’ or friends’ to escape police arrest.
He said that out of the six suspected criminals who escaped from Gamba police station, they managed to arrest one recently whom they are holding at Gamba police station.
The remaining five, he confirmed, are still at large.
"We are finalizing plans to get them,” he added.
Mukwate said his officers are also tracing two suspected armed poachers who disappeared when KWS officers raided the place they were hiding in Kokani forest when their colleague was shot dead on Tuesday after they were caught roasting buffalo meat.
"These are people believed to be from Garissa and their accomplice whom we found was a resident here was shot dead when he tried to shoot at KWS officers but we are following information which will lead to their arrest," he noted.
Mukwate warned local residents against hiding criminals saying that those found hiding them will also be dealt with accordingly because it is against the law.
