Police in Nyeri search for rape suspect

Nyeri - Police in Othaya have launched a manhunt for a 55-year-old man who allegedly raped a 4-year-old girl at Kianganda village on Saturday.
The man went into the woods after an attempt by local residents to attack him over the incident. They had forced their way into his home which is just near the minor’s home but the suspect managed to escape.
Their efforts to hunt him down were futile since they could not his hideout.
The victim was taken to a Nyeri hospital where she was admitted for treatment.
Reportedly, the minor’s mother was at the shopping centre when the incident occurred.
A resident said the man is a close friend to the family and was spotted by one of the neighbours with the minor.
The man is suspected to have used confectioneries to lure the girl into his house and defiled her as several sweets and biscuits were found in her pockets.
After returning home, the mother said she found the girl missing and alerted neighbours who started the search for her immediately only to find her crying inside the suspect’s house.
