Police in Kitale Tuesday morning impounded two bags of bhang worth KES 600 000 that was in transit to Nairobi.
Area police boss James Mitugo said the suspect was arrested after a tip off from a member of the public who become suspicious of the 150- kilograms luggage that was being loaded into a passenger’s vehicle.
“We were informed by a caller about the bhang that was destined for Nairobi after it was discovered that it was not mitumba clothes as the owner had alleged,” he said.
Mitugo thanked the public for offering the information that helped police confiscate the bhang.
He said that members of the public must participate in the fight against drug abuse which he said has contributed largely to increase in criminal activities in the country.
“If we want to have a generation that we can depend upon, then we need to fight hard to ensure that those who are responsible in selling drugs to our youth are brought to justice,” he said.
The suspect was taken to Kitale police station as investigations to ascertain the origin of the bhang commence.
