Webuye - Police in Webuye, Bungoma County are holding a middle-aged man who was allegedly found in possession of a forged police identification card.
The 31-year-old man was arrested over the weekend by security agents after an operator of a photocopy bureau in the town alerted them, as he tried to scan the fake identification card.
Willy Simba, the Webuye East OCPD confirmed the incident and thanked the member of the public for sharing information with the cops, which led to the arrest of the suspected police imposter.
“We are grateful to the photocopy operator for giving us information that led to the arrest of the man. We are appealing to more members of the public to volunteer information to us on persons they suspect to be involved in criminal activities,” said the police boss.
Simba urged the area residents to embrace community policing and Nyumba Kumi initiatives by the government, noting that the methods will assist them to guarantee security.
The incident comes hardly three weeks after another man in the same town was arrested for posing as a Kenya Defence Force (KDF) serviceman. Police recovered full KDF military regalia from a hotel room where the suspect was putting up.
The suspect was released on a bond of KES 100 000 and a surety of the same amount by Webuye Resident Magistrate Chrispunus Owuor.
