Police hunt for couple suspected of abduction

08 April 2013, 17:06 Wangui Joseph

Nyeri police are pursuing a couple that failed to turn up in court following a cash bail issuance.

Paul Gicheru Kahama and Virginia Muthoni Gicheru are faced with charges of abduction in order to kill, and conspiracy to commit offence.

Their case was mentioned before Chief Magistrate Wilbroadah Juma but neither the accused nor a legal representative appeared in court.

The prosecutor Catherine Wambua lamented that the two were released last week on a bond of KES 5 000 from Nyeri police station.

However, the magistrate said the amount of bond issued was too low compared to the charges.

She therefore ordered the area police boss Kirunya Limbitu to appear in court for summons over issuance of cash bails.

The prosecutor objected the directive and requested the court to summon the Officer Commanding Nyeri Police Station instead of the OCPD.
Nevertheless, the magistrate upheld her decision and ordered the OCPD to be summoned on April 12.

The couple is suspected to be behind several robbery incidences taking place in the area.
