Police had no case against Alai

06 February 2015, 16:09 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - The controversial blogger was released from police custody and his file sent to the office of the director of public prosecutions to further investigate grounds for charges.

The blogger was released Friday afternoon after spending a night at the Muthaiga Police Station after officers from the Criminal Investigation Department CID arrested him Thursday.

He was allegedly arrested because of comments he made on Facebook mentioning some prominent personalities in incidences of land grabbing.

According to police sources that spoke to News24, the blogger was released as there was not enough evidence to file charges against him.

" He was not charged and has been released. His file has been sent to the DPP's office where it will be looked at further," the source said.

The well known blogger was detained Thursday afternoon after he agreed to appear for a police summon and was taken to the Muthaiga Police Station, where he was not released despite cooperating fully with officials.

He was in his own admission detained at the police station and expected to be released in the evening, but that did not happen.

Sources at the CID told News24 that Alai was still in their custody Friday and that he would likely be released by evening on bail.

" He is still here with us. He will likely be here till evening," the source earlier said.

There is still no official police confirmation as to why they are detaining the blogger and also what will likely be done as regards his case.

According to the blogger, he took himself to the CID after he was summoned to answer to allegations that he had misused his Facebook account in talking about incidences related to land grabbing in Langata and Ruai.

" Been arrested for sharing stories about land grabbing in Langata and Ruai. Being taken to the Muthaiga Police Station," he said on his Twitter account.

Alai has been arrested before for posts made on Social media, being released on bail not so long ago for undermining the President by posting his phone contacts online.
