Mombasa - Police Tuesday gunned down five suspected criminals in Tudor area, Mombasa, and recovered two pistols and 26 rounds of ammunition.
The five were shot dead after a lengthy chase by police during the day before they started exchanging fire in Tudor, leading to their death.
Speaking to the media at the scene, the Mombasa Urban OCPD, Geoffrey Mayiek said that the five are believed to have been involved in the cold blood murder of a business man of Somali origin on Monday evening, confirming the death of the five.
“We managed to recover two pistols, three pairs of Armed Force uniforms and 26 rounds of ammunition. This confirms the excellent job the police will do if the public is ready to provide critical information as they did today,” said Muyeka.
The Mombasa County Commissioner, Nelson Marwa said that the security team in Mombasa has every reason to believe that the five are either members of the gang that murdered a businessman on Monday, or among the gang that has been continuously robbing people of their goods in Old Town, Kibokoni and Changamwe area.
The incident happened just a day after a 30-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of a G-3 rifle that he was ferrying from Garissa to Mombasa.
Commissioner Marwa has asked Mombasa county dwellers to be more vigilant and provide information through mobile numbers that the county government has provided to the public.
