Kirinyaga - Police in Kirinyaga fired in the air to flush out a suspected follower of the outlawed Mungiki sect who attempted to kill his wife and two children at Ithareini village.
The suspect, who has been in self-exile outside Kirinyaga County since 2009, was reported to have resurfaced recently only to start picking up quarrels with his wife whom he had neglected with two children while in hiding.
Residents called police who rushed to the scene to arrest the suspect.

“Instead of complying, the suspect started chasing the officers while armed with the machete and later picked a rope, stormed into a house and locked himself in threatening to commit suicide,” said an eyewitness.
The officers pleaded with him several times to surrender but he was adamant, forcing them to shoot at the house severally until they managed to smoke him out and immediately arrested him.
