Police detonate 70 year old bomb

Police at Jigari area in Othaya detonated a 70 year-old bomb which was found by a farmer on Thursday.
The five kg bomb which was being used by British soldiers during the colonial era had been found in Othaya by a farmer who was grazing his cattle.
It was detonated at Aberdare forest as locals scampered for safety.
The thud was heard over a kilometer away and locals were shocked of the thud.
A smoke was seen after the detonation which almost fell down a tree.
“I have never heard such a thud in my life. I thought the world was coming to an end,” said 80 year-old local resident, Salezio Njiru.
Jackline Wambui who is a mother of two said she could not believe her ears since it was so loud that she fell down.
Nyeri South deputy police boss Benjamin Mwanzia said the bomb with 16 horse power was left behind by the British military during the struggle for independence in the 1950s.
