Police are hunting down an armed police constable who eloped narrowly with gun-shot wounds after a spirited shoot out at a bar in Nanyuki town last weekend.
Area security team laid an ambush at the suspected armed robbers at Popular Bar and Restaurant in town, amongst them two police constables.
According to Laikipia East Police boss Joshua Lutukai, the two constables who had joint the gang had been stationed at Umande Police Station.
He said that suspects were on a mission to steal Ksh 800,000 from a farmer who had just sold his piece of land and wanted to purchase a car.
“We got a tip-off from some of the witnesses who were in the bar and acted promptly. During a prolonged shoot-out exchange exercise, one suspect was shot dead while the other eloped jointly with one armed police constable who had sustained serious gun-shot wounds”, said the OCPD.
Mr. Lutukai continued that his team was able to apprehend the other police constable who is facing charges at the Nanyuki Law Courts.
“The constable gave up when the battle became so tough and we also retrieved a Taurus gun from him”, he said.
The OCPD has urged members of public to be wary of the armed police constable and his counterpart who are at large adding that they should give them information upon any form of their suspicion.
However, Mr. Lutukai has assured that his team is very much into the hunt and that it will not relent until the two suspects are brought to book.
