A police constable alleged to have been ferrying 5 Al Shabaab suspects along Isiolo - Nairobi highway has been arrested and escorted to the Rift Valley Provincial Police Headquarters in Nakuru.
The constable who is based at Laikipia East Division headquarters was transporting the militia group via his Toyota station wagon private car when it incurred a hiccup at Nanyuki.
According to Laikipia East OCPD Joshua Lutukai, the 5 Al Shabaab suspects boarded a Toyota probox vehicle and continued with their journey to Nairobi.
“I have alerted the Police Headquarters in Nairobi about the Al Shabaab suspects and that they should keep an awry eye on any suspicious person in the city,” Lutukai said.
The police boss further added that he received a call from his friend on Sunday who informed him about the matter.
He also pointed out that he started investigating the issue instantly.
“On Monday, I went to a garage in Nanyuki town and found the vehicle which was under repair. I then ordered that it be towed to the station”, he continued.
Lutukai said they are suspecting that the police constable was conducting the act with a military officer in the KDF.
The constable is expected to be escorted to CID Headquarters in Nairobi for further interrogations.
The OCPD has assured that the law will take its course into the matter and urged Kenyans to be vigilant.
