Nairobi - Police have cancelled CORD's Eldoret rally set for later this week, sighting security as a major concern.
In a statement seen by News24, the police claim that they have information that there are groups that have been hired to disrupt the rally that was intended to take place at the 64 Stadium in Eldoret town Friday.
" Please note that the security situation in the area is volatile thus the decision to cancel the rally, the statement read.
Rallies have also been cancelled in Elgeyo and Nandi.
The decision will likely bring a response from the CORD top brass who did not however react to the news by the time of going to press.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago had earlier on said that he would not allow the rallies take place in Eldoret due to the political tension in the country.
Eldoret is an area largely populated by supporters of deputy president William Ruto.
Police had also in the past said they would cancel CORD rallies in Nairobi and Mombasa but retracted after pressure from opposition ranks.
The rally in Eldoret was set to be a preview for the Saba Saba Day rally which CORD is planning for July 7, 2014.
