Nyeri - Police in Karatina town, Nyeri County, have blow up a carton containing chemicals used to manufacture counterfeit money.
The well sealed white box had been left at the roadside along Karatina-Kiwarigi road near Muthua Estate.
The carton caused a stir and fear in the entire Karatina town, with some residents fearing it could be a bomb.
It had a hair shaving machine, an electronic cable and fake 1 000 and 500 shilling notes wrapped with cotton wool.
Bomb experts from Nyeri town arrived at the scene with a sniffer dog but did not detect any explosive matter in the unattended box.

They were later forced to blow it up.
“We feared it could be a bomb given the state of security in Kenya. We called the police and they ordered the public to keep off the scene as they inspected it,” said Charles Maina, a resident.
Nyeri County senior criminal investigations officer, Julius Emase said police will investigate the matter and apprehend those behind fake money manufacturing in the area.
