Police arrest woman over fake kidnap plan

Karatina - Police in Karatina, Mathira sub - County, have arrested a 22-year-old woman who lied to her husband that she had been kidnapped.
The woman, Mary Njeri, was tracked using her mobile phone two days after she reported to her husband that she had been kidnapped by four people who were in a Probox vehicle.
The mother of one was to meet her husband Friday afternoon at Karatina town, from Ngandu area in Nyeri County.
But she later called her husband and informed her that she was kidnapped, hands and legs tied and then taken to an unknown place.
Njeri further told her husband that the kidnappers wanted KES 500 000 and the husband even sent KES 10 000 which the kidnappers said was for ‘communication’.
After quick investigations by CID officers and informers, she was tracked to Thogoto area in Kiambu County two days later.
Mathira East OCPD, Rashid Mohammed, said the two are now being held at Karatina Police station and will be arraigned in court soon.
Mohammed said they will charged with giving false information, extortion and misuse of communication gadgets among others.
Maina, who is a matatu conductor at Karatina, said he was shocked by the incident since he has never witnessed such an incident since they got married four years ago.
Mohammed called the members of the public to be very keen and careful concerning kidnapping reports.
