Police arrest suspected killer, recover toy gun

16 January 2015, 11:37 Joseph Njung'eh

Nyeri - Police in Nyeri have arrested one suspect in connection to the killing of a prominent businessman in Mweiga town, Kieni West Sub-county.

Nyeri County Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police chief, Julius Emase said the suspect was found at Kiandu area in Tetu, Sub-County.

Emase said the suspect was in a gang of robbers that killed Nathaniel Mutitu Gicheche on Wednesday morning.

He said police also recovered a toy gun, blood stained clothes, a driving license and impounded a car that was allegedly used by the suspected killers to escape.

“After the incident, we got leads that have enabled us to arrest the suspect who is assisting police with the investigations. We impounded the vehicle whose registration number plates were smeared with mud,” said Emase.

He divulged that the car has an impending traffic case while the suspect in custody was recently in remand over a criminal offence.

“We are asking the public to volunteer any information that will assist police in the investigation exercise and assembling of evidence,” said the police boss.

He further said that police were investigating claims by motorists that there were roadblocks being erected at night by ‘police officers’ in civilian clothes along Mweiga-Kiawara-Nyahururu road.
