Unreported killings in Kwale
03 April 2013, 15:23
There has been a series of untold killings in Kwale County, the Kwale county commissioner Evans Achoki has confirmed.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday in his office at the county headquarters in Kwale, the commissioner said that the killings are linked to the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).
The commissioner said that the group has been targeting those who spearheaded the vote campaign in the county.
It is confirmed that people in Kwale County, a region believed to be the stronghold of MRC, received messages warning them against voting in the just concluded March 4th general elections.
Residents have confirmed several deaths which have been put far from the eye of the media with excuses that this might trigger violence in the country.
The commissioner has however said that the government has taken a stern step to make sure that the situation is under control, a statement that is contrary to the views of Coast provincial police commander Agree Aduoli who said that the police are finding it hard to deal with the MRC bandits.
Aduoli said that the hardships are originating from what police believe to be a large section of the MRC group that has benefited from military training by the Al shabaab of Somalia.
Elsewhere, Coast provincial commissioner Samuel Kilele has called upon MRC members to lay down their weapons and will walk away in amnesty.
The commissioner said that the police have landed on serious information about the organization and that they were subject to being swept away if they did not surrender in time.
Plain talk has been there for quite a long time yet 26 police officers have been killed and several police guns stolen by the group.
