Podium worth KES 4 million constructed for beatification ceremony

Nyeri - Days before the beatification of Sister Irene Stefani, the Catholic Church has constructed a 200-sitter podium at Kimathi University grounds at a cost of KES 4 million.
Speaking while inspecting the venue, Father Donatus Mathenge who is in charge of the event publicity said the dais, fabricated by Indian engineers, is portable and will be removed once the event is over.
"The dais is the first of its kind in East Africa. We want to ensure that more than 300 000 pilgrims get a view of what is happening,” said Mathenge.

He said that the dais will accommodate an Alter for the Pope's representative in the country and other cardinals who will be involved in the celebration of the mass on May 23.
“This dais will be high so that no one is obstructed from witnessing the event of their lifetime. We will also provide space for local and international television crews,” said Mathenge.
He said that so far, works at the cemetery where Irene was interred in the 1930s at Mathari is complete while the new one at Our Lady of Consolata Catholic Church in Nyeri town is being worked on to conform to the church requirements.
