Nanyuki - A middle aged suspected poacher has been killed by KWS rangers at the expansive Solio Ranch.
Two others escaped with gunshot wounds Thursday night after the rangers ambushed them while heading for a poaching mission at the ranch which is situated at the boarder of Nyeri and Laikipia counties.
Kieni West OCPD, John Kemboi, said that one sporting gun was recovered at the scene, alongside one round of ammunition and a mobile phone.
He said the poachers were either targeting a white rhino or an elephant but had not yet managed to kill any.
Aberdare National Park Senior Warden, Christine Boit, warned poachers that there is no room for poaching at the ranch since the KWS and GSU security personnel are very alert.
She said that KWS is working together with the County government and the provincial administration to ensure that poaching is curbed in the County.
Meanwhile, a mobile shop was on Thursday night broken into and everything stolen in Nyeri town.
The shop had all phones on the display. The phones were worth over KES 1 million.
The gang accessed the shop from behind by drilling a hole on the stone wall through which they used to enter, a thing that puzzled residents since the shop is manned by a night guard.
It is alleged that there was some cash that had been left in the shop following the previous day sales, totaling to KES 300,000.
