Plan to help Mentally challenged children in Meru

Parents with mentally challenged children in Igembe South have been urged by the Igembe South Quality Asurance officer to enroll them in special institutions to enhance maximum talent development.
Muthama spoke when he was awarding winners during the mentally challenged children sport that took place in Mailitatu Playgroundrecently, saying that the children had hidden talents as much as society views them as disabled. Muthama called on all stakeholders to help the government identify the children so that they could benefit from the welfare support programmes.
Special programmes coordinator Francis Gitonga who was present added that parents who hid such children at home due to ignorance and stigma should turn a new leaf of their children's life, saying such parents risked prosecution for negligence and violation of education rights for the kids.
The event attracted participants from 20 Special Units Programmes with the children showcasing their abilities and talents in 100m, 200m, 400m race and high jump among other field events in the ceremony attended by area residents among them various government officials.
