07 November 2013, 17:37 Joseph Njung’eh

Nyeri - A Nyeri court has issued a warrant of arrest for a woman accused of running an unregistered chemist in Ihururu area,Nyeri County.

The warrant released towards Betty Muiruri Wandia was issued after she jumped bail and failed to appear in the court for the hearing of her case.

She is out on bond terms of KES 25,000 and faces charges of operating a chemist without a license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board. She is also accused of running a pharmaceutical business out of unregistered premises and possessing poisonous drugs without authority.

Wandia was arrested on October 29 by inspectors of Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya and arraigned before Resident Magistrate John Aringo who released her on bail after she denied the offences.

The prosecutor, inspector Bernard Wamalwa said the accused person was not in court when her case was scheduled to proceed and thereby requested the court to issue the arrest warrant. The cash bail was subsequently forfeited.
