Pastor's wife caught shoplifting a supermarket

17 February 2015, 14:15 Philomenah Chebet

Bungoma - A middle-aged woman who is said to be the wife of a Bungoma pastor was caught on Close Circuit Television (CCTV) allegedly shoplifting Tessia supermarket in Kanduyi, in the outskirts of Bungoma town.

Security officers and shoppers were shocked after the nabbed woman confessed that she is a wife of a prominent pastor from Buema area, not far away from where the supermarket is.

She was captured on camera allegedly stealing cooking oil, which she hid between her thighs.

Security officers at the supermarket waited until the lady was done and pounced on her at the till.

“One of our hawked-eyed officers spotted the lady on CCTV acting suspiciously. On close monitoring, she was seen stuffing  cooking fat under her dress. We were shocked after she confessed that she is a Pastor's wife, and she has been shoplifting for long at our supermarket,” said the security officer.

The incident has sparked debate on social media, especially after the photo of the pastor’s wife was posted on a popular Facebook group- C411, with the loot she allegedly shoplifted.

“She only stole basic things and should be pardoned. Can you compare her with crooks in this country who steal millions of shillings?” posed a group member, Ismail Ousmane Sambu.

"Wacheni kumulaumu mhudumu wa bwana, Waumini wanaleta sadaka ya coins pekee (stop laying blame on this woman or her husband who is a servant of God. It is the flock to blame because they are only giving coins as offering),” Wekesa Moses posted, tongue in cheek.
