Kampala - Each passing day religious leaders in Uganda are embroiled in scandals of different nature including swindling people out of their money, adultery and homosexuality.
On Wednesday, a pastor was arrested in a lodge with two underage girls during an operation carried out by police in the outskirts of Kampala. He had reportedly been sleeping with them in turns.
According to the police officer who led the operation, Dan Ampadde, police responded to local residents' outcry about men taking underage girls to the lodges during the day and playing sex with them.
They also complained about lodges accommodating suspicious people who might include terrorists.
The arrested pastor has been identified as Chris Luku of Hope Christian Center at Kalerwe suburb. The lodge where he was arrested with the girls is about 500 metres from his church.
A local leader who was accompanying the police during the operation, Juma Magambo said, ''We were shocked when after knocking at the door of one of the lodge rooms, Pastor Luku opened while half naked with only a towel wrapped around his waist. On the bed were two naked underage girls.''
Magambo said on realizing that it was the police, Luku begged for mercy saying he had been confused by Satan and will never do it again but police insisted on arresting him.
He was taken with the girls to the police station.
One of the girls (names withheld because she is a minor) said, ''Pastor Luku has been bringing us to this lodge several times and we have been sleeping with him. He promised to get us visas after Senior 4 so that we could go and and continue our studies abroad.''
She said they were sisters, with one aged 15 and the other 17 years. In Uganda, the age of consent is 18 years.
