Parliament okays Standard Gauge Railway project

Nairobi - Parliament has given the standard gauge railway project a clean bill of health after months of consultation and investigation into the realms of the project.
The Public Investments Committee PIC in its submission to the national assembly Wednesday said that after investigating and going through the books of the tender, there was no reason to cancel the tender.
" The project should proceed taking into consideration the observations and recommendations by the committee and review of the project to ensure value for money since as of now there are no contractual/financing obligations on the part of the government until a financing agreement is signed, the PIC said in its submission.
The PIC said that there was no way the government would make any losses if the deal went through.
From the evidence adduced by the Auditor General, Attorney General, Cabinet Secretary to the National Treasury and the Transport CS, the project has so far been procured within the law and the government would not incur any losses, it added.
The revelation will end any lingering opposition to the project after a similar commitee chaired by Starehe MP Maina Kamanda said there was no problem with the tender. For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!.
