Parents urged to encourage youth engage in sports

Five-time World cross country gold medallist John Ngugi has urged parents to encourage their children to engage in sporting activities in order to exploit their talents.
Ngugi was speaking at Ngano in Nyandarua County during a 10Km community race he had organised where he called on the youth to stop blaming the government for lack of jobs, saying that there are natural opportunities they can exploit.
Ngugi, who is also the founder of John Ngugi Foundation, said that his foundation was determined to not only nurture sporting talents but also support needy students through the ‘Run to Learn’ initiative that he founded.
The event brought together athletes from all over Nyandarua and some parts of Laikipia County.
He has since retired from active sports and is working to nurture young and upcoming talents as well as assist people from marginalised areas.
