Kampala - Parents of a school in Kibaale district beat up a teacher who has allegedly been absconding duty over drunkenness as his pupils watched.
In the last two months, the teacher is said to have reported to work only twice and according to parents, he was drunk on both occasions.
The parents reportedly tied his hands and legs with ropes before beating him up before pupils who cheered in excitement as the teacher cried in pain.
A local leader, Henry Habwe said, ''The furious parents tied John Kaloko with ropes before they beat him severely. They accused him of not doing his work yet the government pays him every month.''
Habwe said that it took him sometime to convince the parents to stop harassing the teacher.
After being set free, the teacher fled while threatening to report the parents to police.
One of the parents, Ambrose Kiiza narrated, ''Most teachers no longer teach our children. They spend most of their time in bars drinking alcohol. It is for that reason that we decided to punish all those who have failed."
